Zola Jesus announces new album + tour dates

Zola Jesus has announced the release of Okavi, set to drop on September 8th via Sacred Bones records.

The album is inspired by deep personal tragedy, and explores themes of loss and reconciliation. Written in pure catharsis, the sonics have been described as heavy, dark, and exploratory.

Best described by the artist herself, she had this to say of the album: “Last year, I moved back to the woods in Wisconsin where I was raised. I built a little house just steps away from where my dilapidated childhood tree fort is slowly recombining into earth. Okovi was fed by this return to roots and several very personal traumas.
While writing Okovi, I endured people very close to me trying to die, and others trying desperately not to. Meanwhile, I was fighting through a haze so thick I wasn’t sure I’d find my way to the other side. Death, in all of its masks, has been encircling everyone I love, and with it the questions of legacy, worth, and will.”

She has also announced a rigorous tour schedule, which kicks off in New York and concludes in London. Scroll down for dates.

Dave Pad remixes Sex Of Insects' 'I Can Hear The Light'

Sex of Insects have shared the Dave Pad remix of their track ‘I Can Hear The Light’ ahead of the release of the full remix album tomorrow via Ylotana Music.

The original track is a complete improvisation of guitar sounds and vocals mixed with some vibrant electronic grooves, with an almost complete absence of synthesisers. Russian-based Dave Pad’s remix moves the track  onto the dancefloor with an incredibly funky, groovy-laiden back beat, while simultaneously holding onto the original tracks esthetical ambience. Euphoric house stabs and a continuous layered texture sits behind the tracks groove, adding a sense of nostalgia and depth to an already emotive original.

Fejká Shares Single 'Twilight (ft. Hildur)’ from Exciting New Debut EP

“Captivated by the atmospheric vibe and the calm of ambient music, as well as the state of absolute ecstasy that provokes the powerful beat of techno, this artist decided to explore the perfect balance between both.”
THUMP

Fejká has just shared 'Twilight (ft. Hildur)’ from his debut EP Twilight via Christian Löffler’s label which will be released via Ki Records on 14 July.

The EP has an interesting concept. Torn between a love for soft ambient sounds, and hard punchy techno, Fejká produced an album that embodies both. The EP’s first two songs, Illumination and ‘Sunlight’ are dreamy downtempo tracks. The album concludes with ‘Moonlight’ and ‘Ghostlight (ft. Marie Angerer)’ which embody Fejká’s love for the harder “harder stuff.” Bridging the gap between the two genres is the title track of the album ‘Twilight (ft. Hildur)’

Fejká says of the track: “My personal favourite, “Twilight (ft. Hildur)”,  is a unique and rare combination of both worlds and really important for me because it perfectly describes my musical taste. It took me a long time to finish something like this, but I'm very happy to have found that one song, which combines everything to an absolute purity of musical perception.”.

Romare Releases 'Come Close To Me (Live Session 1)'

"Precisely the sort of confounding of expectations we love to hear, and bodes well for a long,
interesting career"
Mixmag

Romare’s ‘Come Close To Me (Live Session 1)’ is a live edit of the single taken from his 2016 LP Love Songs: Part Two. Along with the track is an 80’s inspired music video a Mazda speeding off into a fading sunset. “From our first phone call discussing the concept for ‘Come Closer’ [Come Close To Me’ Ed]", says director Greg Barnes “Archie (Romare) and I were on the same page. We both wanted to push the limits of what a performance-based, session style video could be, and it was clear that meant smoke, lasers, and his Mazda.”

The single and video were released on the 27th June 2017 (premiered via Crack) on Ninja Tune.  Just in time as Romare prepares for his upcoming headline show at KOKO on 11th November 2017.This will be his biggest and, surely, most impressive performance to date which will see him showcase his disco beats with a live band as well as DJ sets by Romare himself and a string of other companions late into the night.
